Assessing English Proficiency for the Workplace

The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) Tests are designed to evaluate test takers ability to communicate with superiors, co-workers, and others in the workplace and community. The tests are an accurate, efficient, and secure way for career-focused training programs, institutions, and professional organizations to measure the readiness of future or current professionals to work in an English-medium environment.

The CELPIP Tests can help you gauge the English language abilities of your applicants, students, or members to communicate with co-workers, understand directions from superiors, and interpret and respond to written materials.

There are two versions of the CELPIP Test: the CELPIP-General Test and the CELPIP-General LS Test. The CELPIP-General Test has four components – Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking ¬– and the CELPIP-General LS Test has two components – Listening and Speaking. Learn more about the Test Format.

Each component of the CELPIP-General Test and the CELPIP-General LS Test is given a CELPIP Level. CELPIP test scores have been aligned to the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) Levels 3 to 12. Learn more about Test Scoring.
